FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about Direct Primary Care in Portland? Start here.
Direct Primary Care can feel unfamiliar at first, especially if you are used to traditional insurance-based healthcare. These FAQs are here to help you understand how membership works, what is included, what may cost extra, and whether Bayberry is the right fit for you.
About Direct Primary Care
-
Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a model of primary care where a clinic charges a monthly membership fee instead of billing insurance for visits and services.
At Bayberry Clinic, that membership gives patients access to care directly through the clinic, including visits, certain procedures, and access to lower-cost lab testing and imaging options.
-
No. The monthly membership fee paid to Bayberry Clinic is not health insurance. It covers member services within Bayberry, including visits, certain procedures, and access to lower-cost lab testing and imaging options.
Health insurance is different. Insurance helps cover major medical events such as surgeries, hospitalizations, emergencies, and other costly or unexpected care needs.
-
Because Bayberry Clinic charges a monthly fee directly to patients instead of billing insurance for each visit, there is significantly less administrative burden and delayed payment management.
That allows more time and resources to go toward patient care, longer visits, direct communication, and a stronger doctor-patient relationship.
-
Yes. Bayberry recommends that patients keep health insurance or health cost-sharing coverage for major medical events.
Insurance is financial protection for unexpected, costly, or life-altering medical needs. When care requires significant cost, such as surgery, hospitalization, emergency care, or specialist treatment, health insurance helps cover those larger needs.
-
Yes. You can still become a Bayberry Clinic member if you do not have health insurance.
That said, Bayberry recommends and encourages patients to have health insurance or health cost-sharing coverage for major medical events, emergencies, hospitalizations, surgeries, and specialist care.
